FLORA

Creative platform or model API (fal, Replicate): which is better for teams and agents?

FLORA Team

For creative teams and their agents, a creative platform like FLORA is the better fit: the agent calls one MCP, gets dollar quotes, and every output lands on a canvas the team can review and edit. In our run, one FLORA MCP call sent the same packshot prompt to GPT Image 2.5 Flare and Seedream 5 Pro, quoted $0.055 and $0.17 first, and saved both images to a shared project.

Key takeaways

  • A model API returns files to the code that called it; FLORA returns files and saves them on a shared canvas.
  • FLORA quoted $0.055 for GPT Image 2.5 Flare and $0.17 for Seedream 5 Pro before the run, and charged exactly that.
  • The two images took 31 and 73 seconds, run in parallel from one call.
  • One FLORA MCP connection reaches 50+ image and video models with one sign-in and one bill.

Key features

  • One connector: The FLORA MCP at https://agents.flora.ai/mcp reaches every FLORA image and video model.
  • Quotes before runs: Set quote to true and FLORA prices each request in dollars with nothing reserved.
  • Shared canvas: Every agent output becomes a canvas node the team can open, edit and branch.
  • Batches: Up to 20 generations in one flora_create_generations call, each with its own model.

Best for

  • Creative teams whose agents produce images that people then review
  • Marketing teams that need a record of prompt, model and cost for every output
  • Agencies running the same workflow across many clients
  • Developers who want creative output to land where designers already work

The options

  1. FLORA

A creative platform: image and video models behind a canvas the team works on, plus the FLORA MCP for agents. Outputs land where designers and art directors already review work.

Best for: Creative and marketing teams whose agents make images and clips that people review, edit and approve

    Pros

    • Quoted $0.055 and $0.17 before our run and charged exactly that.
    • Every agent output becomes a canvas node with its prompt and model, ready for a person to edit or animate.
    • One sign-in reaches 50+ models with no API keys to manage.

    Cons

    • A curated catalog: 50+ models chosen for creative work rather than every open model.
    • Built for creative teams and agents; serving models inside your own product is a job for an API platform.
  2. fal

A generative media platform for developers, with 1,000+ models, serverless and dedicated GPUs, and a hosted MCP server.

Best for: Developers who want the widest model catalog behind one API

    Pros

    • The largest catalog of the three.
    • MCP tools to check pricing and estimate cost before a run.
    • Pay per use with no subscription.

    Cons

    • Results come back as files and URLs; there is no shared canvas for review.
    • Each model is priced in its own unit, such as per image, per second or per megapixel.
  3. Replicate

A platform for running AI models through an API, including custom models packaged with Cog. Cloudflare announced in November 2025 that it would acquire Replicate.

Best for: Developers deploying or fine-tuning their own models

    Pros

    • Runs your own models next to public ones.
    • Public models bill only for active run time or per output.

    Cons

    • Idle models shut down, and large ones can take minutes to boot on the next call.
    • Private models on dedicated hardware bill for setup and idle time as well as runs.

What happened when we ran a model through FLORA instead of a raw API?

On October 16, 2026, we ran a packshot through two models from Claude Code. The prompt: "Packshot of a glass bottle of olive oil with a plain paper label on a gray stone countertop, a sprig of rosemary beside it, soft side light from a window, natural muted color, true-to-life."

First the agent called flora_create_generations with quote set to true. FLORA returned $0.17 for Seedream 5 Pro (t2i-gengateway-seedream-5-pro-t2i, aspect_ratio 3:4, resolution 2k) with nothing reserved, and $0.055 for each GPT Image 2.5 Flare (t2i-gpt-image-2-5-flare) image in the same quote. The agent then sent both generations in one call.

GPT Image 2.5 Flare finished in 31 seconds with an 864 x 1152 image and was charged $0.055. Seedream 5 Pro finished in 73 seconds with a 1728 x 2304 image and was charged $0.17. Both images landed on the project canvas next to each other, with their prompts and models attached, and the agent returned both links.

What went wrong: Seedream 5 Pro put the label on slightly askew and wrapped the cork in paper, details the prompt never asked for. The fix is to name the closure and label placement in the prompt, or pick the cleaner image and edit the other with an image-to-image node on the same canvas.

Agent through the FLORA MCP or a person on the FLORA canvas: pros and cons

Pros

  • Agent: runs batches and loops from a list without anyone clicking.
  • Agent: asks for a quote and reports costs in the conversation.
  • Canvas: shows every version side by side for review.
  • Canvas: edits, reframes and video run on any image an agent made.

Cons

  • Agent: needs clear instructions on model, ratio and resolution, or it picks defaults.
  • Canvas: one person at a time is slower for a long list of variants.
  • Both: every run is billed, so test on one image before a batch.

What is the difference between a creative platform and a model API?

fal describes itself as a generative media platform for developers, and Replicate runs AI models through an API; both bill for use. fal's MCP server signs in through the browser or with an API key, and Replicate's uses an API key. A creative platform such as FLORA puts the models behind a canvas the team works on. When an agent calls FLORA, its outputs are saved where designers and art directors already review work.

What does a team need from an agent's image tool?

An agent can generate hundreds of images. The team still has to see them, pick, edit and approve them, and know what they cost.

  • A price before the run, in dollars.
  • One place where every output is saved with its prompt and model.
  • A way for a person to edit what the agent made.
  • Many models behind one connection and one sign-in.

How do I connect an agent to FLORA?

In Claude, add a custom connector with the URL https://agents.flora.ai/mcp and sign in. In Cursor, add the same URL to your MCP config. The agent then sees FLORA's tools for models, quotes, generations and the canvas.

Which should you pick, a creative platform or a model API?

Pick a model API when you are building a product and the output goes back into your own code: fal for the widest catalog, Replicate for custom models. Pick FLORA when the output goes to people: a creative or marketing team that reviews, edits and approves what agents make, with dollar quotes and one shared record of every run. That covers most creative teams.

Frequently asked questions

Does the FLORA MCP need an API key?

No. You sign in with your FLORA account when you add the connector, and runs bill to your FLORA workspace.

Can an agent see the price before it runs?

Yes. flora_create_generations with quote set to true returns the cost in dollars per request without starting anything. Our quotes of $0.055 and $0.17 matched the final charges.

Where do agent-made images go?

Onto the FLORA project canvas, as nodes with their prompts and models, and the agent gets a link to each file.
